History of Cupping
Where exactly cupping began is a little uncertain. What we do know is that since the beginning of time, humans intuitively sucked on a sore, a splinter, or bite to make it feel better. Somewhere along the way, we figured out how much easier and more accessible it is to use a medium between our mouth and the body part.
I theorize that this instinct for sucking is a mammalian response to comfort since our first comfort and food supply comes from sucking the mother. More research could be done on this point, but it makes some logical sense.
In this section, we go through the historical links to cupping through cultures, the kinds of diseases that cupping was used to treat in early times and how that applies to cupping today.
I hope that you enjoy the journey.
