Treating Conditions on the BL Channel
Cupping is helpful for a wide variety of conditions where we would treat the Bladder Channel. Because it is the longest meridian in the body, it is where we often see the most injury. As we know, injury to one area of the BL channel can often be reflected elsewhere, and also treated elsewhere.
All cupping techniques can be applied to the Bladder Channel. BL 40 should not be cupped deeply with stationary cupping because of the popliteal artery. However Bloodletting at BL 40 is an effective approach for many conditions of the lower back and legs.
The first point on the Bladder channel that cupping can help is BL 2. This point is important when there is fluid congestion in the head and sinuses. It is also indicated for headaches and a tiny elongated cup can be used to release congestion here.
On the back of the body, cupping is used on the entire Bladder channel, with specific emphasis over the back shu points, particularly those which are most related to Qi and Blood.
It is not recommended to cup deeply on the lumbar points and deep cupping could stimulate a kidney stone or aggravate a lumbar disc. Extra care should be taken in this area.
