Treatment for Lower back pain
The lower back can be treated in several positions. If the patient has severe lower back pain in a spasm, they may not be comfortable laying on their back. In this case they can be treated in side lying position. Here, the bottom leg is straight, and the top knee is bent at 90 degrees, the top leg is draped across the body and table. The goal is to extend the QL muscle on the opposite side as it is in a stretch position. As we have mentioned, the lower back muscles can carry a lot of injury, and should be treated with lighter pressure.
Warm cupping would be indicated over the low back area – light suction with warm cups and a heat lamp for up to 20 minutes. In this case, the patient can be on their stomach, with pillows under the abdomen to open up the lower back and make the patient more comfortable.
