Hara Cupping for Digestion

Begin with the descending colon, moving with the direction of peristalsis, clearing the descending colon before the treating the rest of the colon. Keep moving in a circular movement, laterally, and spiraling inward with the gliding movement still following the clock until you have treated the entire abdomen. Feel for restrictions, and determine the rest of your abdominal treatment based on the findings. You will be able to feel blockages in Qi when you follow this procedure. You can park a cup on an area that is blocked, and continue the circular movement with another cup.

You may notice the cup stopping in an area. This is very often over the liver and gallbladder, ileocecal valve, descending aorta, sphincter of oddi, and the pyloric sphincter. By leaving the cup in place for 1-2 minutes, the area should feel clear the next glide over the area. If not, repeat the procedure.

Pumping or release cupping can be performed on the sluggish valves such as the gallbladder (caution gallstones), Oddis sphincter, iliocecal valve, ovary, esophageal sphincter etc. The valves are related to the Spleen function, so this technique can help with Spleen Qi. This is a very gentle pumping action.

Case Study: Diahhrea
Patient 48 year old man, says he's healthy and eats well.  Has been having diahhrea on and off for a few weeks.
Pulse is a bit low and soft, the tongue is pink and mapped
Suffers with depression and anxiety, on medication for ADHD
First treatment was acpuncture and moxibustion to stimulate yang qi.
Diagnosis: Deficient Yang Qi effecting Stomach and Spleen, Liver Qi stagnation
Follow up to cupping session:
Patient had moments of anxiety, shallow breathing during the session.  Cups were not moving smoothly over the liver and the lateral abdomen. The diaphragm area had a gravelly sensation (finding this with mouth breathers and diaphragm problems)
Patient did not continue with treatment, and eventually went for medical tests to find out almost a year later that they had colorectal cancer (stage 3)
