Disinfection of Silicone Cups

Disinfection is a conversation that keeps coming up over and over again.

There are two conversations that are particularly relevant to disinfection that are important to discuss:

1. "I've been doing this for 20 years and never had a problem" This is a numbers game.  The incidence of spread of infection is very very low.  You could practice unsafe disinfection for your entire career and never see a case of spread of disease.  Or you could be unlucky - well your client could be unlucky... and someone could catch a communicable disease.

The best way to avoid this is to practice safe cleaning practices.

2. The conversation about "intact skin" This conversation seems to assume that skin is non-porous.  In the research, blood cells are found on cups from all depths of cupping.  There is other sellular waste that is removed from the body as well.  Not only could you infect your client, but you could infect yourself.  The best practice is to always use high level disinfection and wear gloves when doing any kind of deep cupping.

Once you set up your disinfection site, it is quite an easy process...
