Stationary Cupping

Typically, the cup will be left in place for 2-20 minutes. If more than one type of cupping is to be performed, one needs to be sure to not treat one body region more than 20 minutes. So, if one intends to also perform 5 minutes of gliding cupping, then the stationary cupping treatment would be shortened. Depending on the degree of flushing, and the quality of circulation in the tissue, treatment will result in either only a slight reddening of the skin, or a red to purple looking mark. The degree and quality of the cupping mark depends on the strength of the suction in the cup, the amount of local blood circulation, and the amount of metabolic waste in the area. The degree of marking is also dependant on skin type. For those with darker skin, and who are genetically descended from sub tropical regions, the blood vessels are more open to the surface of the skin.

Stationary cupping is usually applied to a medium or a deep depth. This can change, based on the constitution of the client (light suction for treatment of Wind) The cup should always have some movement on the tissue being treated, so that the skin is not being damaged.

Stationary cupping is best utilized in cases of heat and local stagnation, as it has a reducing effect.
